Background
During the 2018 legislative session, the Senate Finance Committee (Committee) requested that the Maryland Health Care Commission (MHCC) convene a workgroup to identify deficiencies in existing policies related to school-based telehealth programs and develop an approach for improving these policies, which may be statutory, regulatory or technical in nature. The Committee required MHCC to report on the workgroup’s findings and provide legislative and regulatory recommendations, including associated budget estimates for programs the State should undertake to improve the delivery of school-based telehealth services. An interim presentation to the Committee was requested in January 2019 and a final report is due in November 2019.
About the Workgroup
The School-Based Telehealth Workgroup (workgroup) will: 1) identify opportunities to use telehealth in a school-based setting; 2) determine challenges to implement and expand school-based telehealth programs; and 3) assess resources required for sustainability and scalability of school-based telehealth services. The workgroup may be divided into subgroups and discuss issues related to different areas of telehealth, including but not limited to, technology, operations, and financing. A detailed workgroup charter is available here. A list of workgroup participants is available here.
A final report was submitted to the Senate Finance Committee in October 2019. The final report can be found here: School-Based Telehealth Final Report (October 2019).
An interim report was submitted to the Senate Finance Committee in January 2019. The interim report can be found here: School-Based Telehealth Interim Report (January 2019).
