THE CENTER FOR QUALITY MEASUREMENT AND REPORTING

The Center is committed to providing meaningful information to consumers about the quality and performance of hospitals, long-term care facilities and surgical centers.  To assist individuals and employers when choosing a health insurance plan, the Center also reports on the quality and performance of Maryland commercial health benefit plans.

  • The Center publishes the Maryland Quality Reports, containing both general information and specific quality and outcome measures for a variety of health care provider types. The Center currently reports on the quality of hospital efforts in surgical infection prevention and is developing strategies to gather and report the rates of key hospital acquired infections.
  • The Maryland Quality Reports provides information on Preparing for Long Term Care, service options that support staying in one’s home, information on alternative living arrangements.  There is an interactive search function to help find and compare home health agencies, assisted living facilities, nursing homes, hospice agencies and adult medical day care centers. There is also comparative information on performance, quality and nursing home family experience of care measures;
  • The Center collects and publishes information on the quality and performance of the most prominent commercial health benefit plans, including health maintenance organization (HMO) plans, point of service (POS) plans, preferred provider organization (PPO) plans and exclusive provider organization (EPO) plans.  The information is displayed on the Maryland Quality Reports consumer website. The site includes detailed information on health benefit plan performance for an extensive list of measures and indicators related to clinical performance, member satisfaction with health care service delivery, behavioral health care information, carrier disparities initiatives, primary care and wellness for children and adults, women’s health, as well as quality improvement initiatives. The information is provided to assist consumers in making informed health choices.
  • The Center has launched a Health Disparities page on the newly revamped Maryland Quality Reports website to further address the impact health disparities have on the wellbeing of Marylanders. This page is intended to not only acknowledge that health disparities among vulnerable groups produce inequities in health outcomes, but additionally, to provide consumers with more knowledge, resources, and a platform to synthesize the many initiatives that exist in the state to combat health disparities.
