Roundtable Series
A series of roundtables, following a July 2021 meeting convened by the Maryland Health Care Commission (MHCC) with state leaders and Health Information Exchange (HIE) representatives, identified the need for a framework to advance information exchange. The initial meeting explored opportunities, challenges, and solutions related to this exchange, and highlighted the future direction of HIEs as broader data utilities supporting providers, consumers, public health agencies, and payers. Subsequent roundtables (January-April 2022), conducted in collaboration with Civitas and the Association for Health IT State Leaders, brought together HIEs, state agencies, regional health improvement collaborative, and other stakeholders involved in public-private health data partnerships. These discussions focused on collaborations supporting Health Data Utility (HDU) implementation, governance, the state's role in HDU oversight, use cases, and sustainability. The roundtable series confirmed the need for a framework to define and implement HDUs. Meeting information from the series is available below.
