The Maryland Health Care Commission (MHCC) is a state agency that works to improve access to high-quality, affordable health care for people in Maryland.
We do this by collecting and sharing data, regulating certain health care services, and providing analysis to support health policy decisions.

How We're Organized
MHCC’s work is carried out through four specialized centers, each focused on a different part of the health care system.
Our Centers
Plans and regulates the availability of health care facilities and services across the state.
- Develops and updates the State Health Plan
- Reviews and approves major health care facility projects
- Collects data on facility capacity and use
- Oversees Certificate of Need programs
Promotes the use of technology to improve care quality, safety, and coordination.
- Supports statewide health information exchange
- Encourages adoption of electronic health records
- Develops best practices for health IT
- Manages the Patient Centered Medical Home Program
Provides data, analysis, and technical support to guide health policy decisions.
- Maintains and analyzes large health care data sets
- Produces reports on costs, insurance, and access
- Supports internal systems and the MHCC website
- Promotes transparency in health care pricing
Helps consumers compare health care options and make informed decisions.

Leadership and Staff
