IMPORTANT NOTICE:

On June 18, 2009, the Maryland Health Care Commission approved an 8% reduction in Trauma Fund reimbursements for all uncompensated care, standby, and on-call costs effective July 1, 2009.

The Maryland Health Care Commission (MHCC) is pleased to announce that it has contracted with CoreSource Inc, a leading third party administrator (TPA), to process uncompensated care claims for the Maryland Trauma Physician Services Fund. CORESOURCE IS NOW ACCEPTING UNCOMPENSATED CARE CLAIMS. Effective May 8, 2009, the FAX number for claims submission is 410 931-8970.

Please download the Trauma Fund Training Presentation pdf for the details. Practices providing trauma services to uninsured patients will be able to submit claims using standard CMS 1500 forms pdf. Electronic claim submission will also be added as soon as the implementation has been fully tested. These new processes will align uncompensated care with standard claim submission standards and will eliminate specialized processing formerly required. Practices may submit an uncompensated care claim as soon the practice has met its payment policy requirements for that claim. Payments will be made by the state on a monthly basis. The semi-annual uncompensated care application that practices had learned to dread has been discontinued. MHCC will not accept the paper or electronic uncompensated care applications that were used prior to the expansion of the Fund. We apologize for any inconvenience, but we are confident that standardizing submission will benefit most practices and may encourage greater participation.

Detailed information on claims submission will be provided via this website and through training sessions that CoreSource and MHCC will jointly sponsor. The training sessions will describe the requirements for submitting claims to CoreSource and outline the support available to practices under the contract. Please download the list of questions pdf that participants have asked during our trainings. Interest in future trainings should be expressed to Valerie Wooding at 410-764-3570. Pre-registration is required and seating is limited. Future training dates and information updates will be posted on this site.
