What type of information is on this website?
This website provides reports and descriptions about Maryland hospitals to help patients in Maryland make informed decisions when selecting a hospital.
You’ll find the following types of information related to Maryland hospital care:
- Descriptions of facility characteristics, including a hospital’s contact information, size, and offerings
- Records of a hospital’s past experience in caring for common medical conditions, including the number of patients treated, their lengths of stay, and percentage of patients readmitted for the same problem or infection.
- Records of a hospital’s frequency to provide recommended treatments also (called quality measures) for heart attacks, heart failure, and pneumonia
- Patient tips about hospital care
- Background information about heart attacks, heart failure, and pneumonia
- Background information about this guide and the data used in its reports

How do I find information on the website?
The Patient Guide features the following links, areas of the screen, and buttons you can use to locate information:
- Consumer Help menu—Located on the left side of the page. Use these links to find helpful tips, questions to ask your doctor, and information about best practices. Select the white box to expand the menu. Alternatively, select the Expand All link at the top of the menu to see all subtopics at once.
- Hospital Guide menu—Located on the right side of the page. Use these links to see reports that describe Maryland hospitals, their services, and records of their care. These links are visible from the main page of the Patient Guide.
- Your Feedback Requested menu—Located on the right side of the page. From the main page for patients, the box on the right labeled Your Feedback Requested allows you to send questions and submit comments about this website. These links are visible from the main page of the Patient Guide.
- Portal tabs—Located across the top. Any time you are in the website, you can return to the main page by selecting the Patient Guide tab. The tabs labeled Hospital Guide, Practitioner Guide, and Hospital Leader Guide give access to another portal designed for another audience.
