The information
contained on this website was extracted from the Maryland Department of Health
and Mental Hygiene, the Health Services Cost Review Commission, and a survey
that is conducted annually by the Maryland Health Care Commission (MHCC). MHCC
surveys all ambulatory surgery providers in the state to develop the MHCC
Freestanding Ambulatory Surgery Data Base. The data on the website was
collected in 2005 for the 2004 calendar year. Please note that because of data collection cycles, some names, addresses and specialties may have changed. Please
check with the ambulatory surgery facility to ensure the accuracy of the
information.
There are
differences in the data available for freestanding ambulatory surgery
facilities and hospital-based facilities. For example, the numbers of
practicing specialties are listed for freestanding facilities; however, these
data are not currently displayed on the website for hospital-based facilities.
The MHCC anticipates adding these data in the future. In addition, the
operating and procedure rooms listed for freestanding ambulatory surgery
facilities are used solely for outpatient surgery, however, a hospital may use
an operating and procedure room for both inpatient and outpatient cases.
Hospitals may also have more total operating rooms than listed on the report
since hospitals are only required to report the number of operating and
procedure rooms used for ambulatory surgery.
It should be
noted that this report reflects the number of cases performed in the year, not
the number of procedures. One case may involve multiple procedures.
Additionally, the volume of cases listed for the year may not be inclusive of
the entire year if the facility was not open for the entire year.
